چکیده

This paper presents comparisons among three item-selection criteria for the sequential probability ratio test. The criteria were compared in terms of their efficiency in selecting items, as indicated by average test length (ATL) and the percentage of correct decisions (PCD). The item-selection criteria applied in this study were the Fisher information function, the KullbackLeibler information function, and a weighted log-odds ratio. We also examined the effects of the cutoff scores, the width of the indifference region, the item pool size, and the item exposure rate under the different item-selection criteria. The results of the computer simulations showed that the three criteria yielded very small differences in the outcome measures, regardless of the conditions imposed.

Constrained Item Selection Using a Stochastically Curtailed SPRT

Computerized classification testing (CCT) provides the means to increase efficiency in educational testing. The stochastically curtailed sequential probability ratio test (SCSPRT) (Finkelman 2003, 2004, 2008) has been tested as an efficient alternative to the most frequently used decision algorithm in CCT for mastery testing, the sequential probability ratio test (SPRT). However, in order to be...

Application of Sequential Probability Ratio Test to Computerized Criterion-Referenced Testing

The adaptive testing is an important testing method in the modern educational/psychological testings. In adaptive mastery testing, the items are selectly adaptively according to the estimated information of the unknown latent ability levels, and given then to the test-takers, sequentially. Hence, the decision (master or non-master; pass or fail) for each test-taker is made sequentially based on...

Item Selection Methods Based on Multiple Objective Approaches for Classifying Respondents Into Multiple Levels

Computerized classification tests classify examinees into two or more levels while maximizing accuracy and minimizing test length. The majority of currently available item selection methods maximize information at one point on the ability scale, but in a test with multiple cutting points selection methods could take all these points simultaneously into account. If for each cutting point one obj...

Non–Fisher-Information Item Selection Criteria 1 Running head: Non–Fisher-Information Item Selection Criteria Comparison of Non–Fisher-Information Item Selection Criteria in Fixed-Length Computerized Adaptive Testing

The maximized Fisher information (MFI) criterion has been the mainstream of the item selection algorithm in many computerized adaptive test (CAT) programs because of its effectiveness and simplicity. There are still several issues with the MFI criterion, however, that need to be resolved in the field, specifically regarding estimation accuracy at the beginning of CAT administration and item poo...
